Violence
The biblical perspective on violence is a journey from the turbulent storms of human discord toward the quiet sanctuary of God’s kingdom. While the scriptures do not shy away from the presence of violence in a broken world, they consistently offer a vision of a future defined by gentleness, safety, and the ultimate cessation of harm.

The Source of the Storm
Violence is often depicted as a departure from God’s original design for creation. It is seen as an expression of a heart that has lost its way, filling the earth with "noise" and "tumult." However, the Bible reminds us that this state of unrest is not our permanent home.

Genesis 6:11: "Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence."

Psalm 11:5: "The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion."

The Promise of Divine Protection
In times of fear or external threat, the scriptures offer the image of God as a "stronghold" and a "refuge." There is a soothing assurance that the cry of the oppressed does not go unheard, and that God is a shield against the "breath of the ruthless."

Psalm 18:48: "He delivers me from my enemies. You exalt me above those who rise against me; You rescue me from the violent man."

2 Samuel 22:3: "My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—from violent people you save me."

The Path of Non-Resistance and Peace
The teachings of Jesus provide a radical alternative to the cycle of violence. He invites us into a life of "meekness"—not as a sign of weakness, but as a profound strength that refuses to meet force with force. By choosing the path of peace, we mirror the character of the Prince of Peace.

Matthew 5:9: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

Matthew 26:52: "'Put your sword back in its place,' Jesus said to him, 'for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.'"

A Vision of Eternal Rest
The most comforting promise regarding violence is its eventual end. The Bible paints a beautiful picture of a restored world where the instruments of conflict are transformed into tools for growth, and where nothing shall "hurt or destroy."

Isaiah 2:4: "He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks."

Isaiah 60:18: "No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise."

In summary, while violence is a painful reality of our current age, it is a shadow that is destined to pass. The scriptures invite us to lean into the protection of God today while holding fast to the hope of a world where every hand is folded in peace.
